-Yoga Class
Participants will meet once a week for one hour (1.5 hours is also an option). This is an eight week behavioral change program. By participating, you will learn techniques to increase strength, flexibility and overall wellness. Along with learning how to strengthen your body you will also learn the best relaxation and stress reduction techniques. In this program you are expected to provide a yoga mat and wear loose, comfortable clothing. Safety is always a number one priority in your fitness regimen, the yoga instructor will only teach positions that are suitable to the fitness level of the class.
-Stress Management Class
This class is a five week behavioral change stress management program focusing on finding the best way for you as an individual to deal with your stress. The main goals of this program are:
- To have participants identify theirs stressors and ways they usually cope with stress
- Develop and practice more effective stress management strategies
- Learn how the mind in its interpretation of events can increase or decrease stress levels
- Learn and practice Relaxation and Meditation techniques.
Participants will complete a stress survey pre and post to measure progress in reducing stress. Each of the five sessions will include the practice of a relaxation technique.
-Nutrition Education Classes
This is an eight week behavioral change class to educate and motivate participants to change their nutrition habits. The objective is that participants and their families will begin to eat healthier foods that will help to lower the risks for heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and other life threating dieses due to obesity. The class will meet once a week for eight one hour sessions. All participants will complete a pre and post nutrition survey to measure their changes. If you take this class you can expect to educate yourself on:
- Nutrition Basics: The food pyramid. What you can eat that will provide the best and healthiest sources of protein, vitamins, and minerals.
- Food Shopping: How to fill your cart with healthy foods by reading labels.
- Sorting out Fats: Learn the difference between the good fats your body craves and bad fats.
- Sorting out Carbohydrates: Good carbs (yes they do exist!) v.s. bad carbs.
- Dining Out: How to stay on the right nutritional path even when eating at a fine dining resturants, fast
food, and even take out!
- Cooking Healthy: How to modify your favorite recipes to fit your new lifestyle.
- Vitamins, Minerals, Supplements: What your not getting enough of in your diet alone.
- Eating to Lose Weight: Its not a diet its a lifestyle!
-Smoking Cessation Class
This workshop is a series of five one hour sessions designed to inform participants about what you methods you can use to prepare to quit smoking and staying quit for good!
- Session One: Harnessing your motivation for quitting once and for all. Information on Nicotine
Replacement Therapy.
- Session Two: Strategies for quitting smoking. Understanding your smoking pattern and what triggers
you. Coping strategies.
- Session Three: Creating your own personalized quitting plan. Dealing with cravings and setting up a reward
system.
- Session Four: Quitting Day. Importance of lifestyle changes and coping with withdrawals. Keeping a
healthy weight post quitting.
- Session Five: Maintenace and relapse prevention. Stress management to deal with life after cigarettes.
